RRB Entrance Exams 2018: RRB is popularly known as Railway Recruitment Board. It is an organization which conducts various recruitments on the basis of need for various Railway positions in India. Railway Recruitment Board conducts the various entrance exams based on the requirements for the various departments/units of Railway. It is not necessary that these are conducted yearly basis, the candidates need to check the official website regularly to get the latest notification. Railway Apprentices Examination:
Apprentice has a variety of jobs such as in operations, manufacturing, electrical, mechanical engineering etc. Apprentice is an option where a candidate can get into a working environment along with academics. RRB conducts Railway Apprentices Examination for the candidates which are intermediate passed with a minimum 50% marks in the examination. They should also have Physics and Mathematics or Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in their intermediate for them to be eligible for the entrance exam. The minimum age should be 17 years and maximum should be 21 years mostly in these types of examinations.
2. Railway Officers Examination:
Railway conducts entrance exams for recruiting qualified candidates for the post of officers. These are conducted through the civil services examinations through UPSC. The list of posts under this category are as follows:
- Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE)
- Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS)
- Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE)
- Indian Railways Accounts Service (IRAS)
- RPF Sub-Inspectors / Constables Examination
- Indian Railway Store Service (IRSS)
3. Railway Group “C” Examinations:
Railways has four categories depending upon the grades these are Group A, Group B, Group C and Group D. Group A&B are generally through civil service exams. Group C category following posts are covered :
Ticket Examiner, Trains Clerk, Junior Clerk cum Typist, Senior Clerk, Ticket Collector Junior Accounts Assistant, Commercial Clerk, Account Clerk cum Typist, Depot Material Superintendent, Telecommunication Maintainer, Enquiry-cum-Reservation Clerk, Assistant Station Master, Goods Guard, Traffic Apprentice, Commercial Apprentice, Senior Permanent Way Supervisor, Junior Engineer, Section Engineer, Assistant Loco Pilot, Junior Stenographer, Technician, Senior Permanent Way Supervisor, Signal Interlocking Maintainer, Staff Nurse, Radiographer, Pharmacist, Health and Malaria Inspector.
RRB Entrance Exams 2018: Exam Pattern & Syllabus
RRB Entrance exams are conducted depending upon the posts. some of the general patterns which the Railway Recruitment follows is:
- General Knowledge
- General English
- Reasoning and Analytical Skills
- Quantitative skills
- Respective Post related questions
Depending upon the post the candidate must prepare themselves for different sections of examinations. Like General Mathematics, Reasoning and Quantitative skills are Intermediate based if the qualification required is intermediate if it graduation or higher degree the candidate needs to prepare themselves accordingly.
RRB Entrance Exams 2018: Online Applications
Most of the competitive exams are not opting for an online system of recruitment. With the starting of notification for the particular post and to the announcement of the results the conducting body rolls out all the information through online mode only.
Written tests are generally now OMR based with MCQ and mostly are CBT computer based Test. There are only a few wherein Pen/Paper written exams are still existing.
If a candidate is willing to apply for any kind of competitive exams, they are requested to keep ready a scanned copy of photograph and signature ready with them for attachment basis.

Railway Recruitment Board as RRB conducts the examination on a yearly basis for the recruitment of various posts in the different Railway units. The salary for most of the jobs are good and gives a security of pension which is much needed nowadays. Apart from that they also have facilities of Pass systems while travelling in trains for some of the higher posts. It is considered one of the most reputed jobs in India.
