JEE Main 2019: Application form, Eligibility, Exam Date, Syllabus & News

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main 2019) is one of the most prestigious examinations of India and is conducted to provide admissions to interested candidates in undergraduate engineering and architecture programmes at NITs (National Institutes of Technology), IITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology) and other centrally funded technical institutions (CFTIs) located across the country. However to get into IIT’s a candidate is required to clear JEE Advanced Examination. This year the examination will be conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) and comprises of two papers i.e. paper 1 and paper 2. From 2019 the JEE Main exam will be conducted twice in a year by NTA.


  • JEE Mains 2019 Application form is available and can be filled from 1st Sept 2018 to 30th Sept 2018.
  • The examination will be conducted twice in a year. The first attempt is scheduled to be conducted between 06.01.2019 to 20.01.2019 and second 06.04.2019 to 20.04.2019. 
  • From 2019 NTA will conduct JEE Main examination as computer based test (online only).

JEE Main 2019 Eligibility Criteria

All the candidates who wish to apply for JEE Main exam are required to go through the eligibility criteria beforehand so as to check their eligibility:

Age– There is no age limit to apply for JEE (Main) examination. Students who have passed 12th or appearing in last year may apply.

Aadhaar Card Number: As per the new eligibility criteria added by the NTA from the session of 2019, all the candidates who wish to sit for Main examination  need to have registered Aadhaar Card Number to be able to fill the application form. It candidate has applied and not received aadhar number, he/she may fill enrollment number received on acknowledgement slip.

Education Qualification– The candidates should be appearing or should have passed higher secondary examination or equivalent either in 2017 or 2018.

A minimum of 50% in aggregation of Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics must have been obtained by the candidate in 10+2 examination.

The candidates must have studied at least 5 subjects in higher secondary standard.

Only 3 attempts per candidate are permissible for JEE Main examination.

The diploma holders (3 years) are also eligible to apply for JEE Main 2019.

Recent Updates about JEE Main 2019

  • JEE Main 2019 will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA).
  • The exam authority has decided to allow Diabetic students to carry sugar tablets or fruits such as banana, apple or orange and a transparent bottle of water.
  • From the year of 2019, the NTA will conduct online exam through Computer Based Test (CBT).
  • From 2019 the JEE Main will be held twice in a year by NTA.

Updates announced last year

  • As per the rules of CBSE, Aadhaar Card number which is issued by UIDAI is required to be entered in the application form for JEE Main 2019, failing which the candidate will not be able to successfully register for JEE Main 2018. However candidates belonging to Assam, Jammu and Kashmir and Meghalaya are exempted from entering their Aadhar card number instead they can register got JEE Main 2019 by using their passport number, bank account number, ration card number and any number document which serves as a valid government identity number.
  • In order to secure a place in top 20 percentile in JEE Main 2019, the candidates belonging to general category should have secured a minimum of 75% marks in class 12th board examination whereas this percentage criteria is 65% for candidates belonging to SC/ST category. The announcement for this rule is made by MHRD.
  • The normalized scores of 12th board examination marks will not be considered while calculating the All India Ranks of JEE Main 2019.
  • As per the new rules, the top 2,20,000 candidates who qualify entrance exam will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2019 which is the gateway to get admission to IIT’s.
  • There is no cap on the percentage need to be obtained in class 12th board examinations in order to be eligible for JEE Main 2019 examination.

The application form for JEE Main is accessible only through the online mode from 1st Sept to 30th Sept 2018 and application process basically involves 3 stages listed below.

  1. Filling JEE Main Application Form
  2. Uploading of the Scanned Images
  3. Payment of application fee

The candidates had to pay the application fees through online mode i.e., credit card/debit card/E-Wallet (SBI buddy/Paytm) or through challan generated by cash in the Syndicate Bank/Canara Bank/ICICI Bank/HDFC Bank.

Correction Facility of JEE Main 2019

In case any error has occurred by the candidate while filling up of the application form for JEE Main 2019, the same could have been corrected with the help of the correction window which was opened from 8th October to 14th October 2018. However changing of the mode of examination from online to offline was not permissible under this option.

JEE Main 2019 Exam Pattern

The JEE Main 2019 exam pattern comprises of two papers namely paper I and Paper II. Candidates who are interested to take admission in B.Tech/B.E they must apply for paper 1 and the candidates who are interested to take admission in B.Arch/B.Planning, they must apply for paper 2. Moreover a Candidate can apply for both papers and the pattern for the same is given below:

JEE Main Paper I:

  • Courses: It is conducted for engineering courses (B.Tech/BE).
  • Number of Questions: It comprises of 90 MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions).
  • Subjects: The paper will cover questions from subjects as Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • Language: Hindi, English (candidates can select the language while filling the application form)
  • Mode: Computer based test (CBT) online only
  • Duration: 3 hours.  (4 hours for the candidates having 40% or more disability)
  • Marking Scheme: 4 marks for each correct response.
  • Negative Marking: 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response or multi-responses.

JEE Main Paper II:

  • Courses: It is conducted for admission into Architecture course. (B.Arch).
  • Number of Questions: It comprises of 82 questions (MCQs) out of which 30 questions from mathematics, 50 questions from aptitude test and 2 questions (descriptive) of drawing test will be asked.
  • Subjects: The paper will cover questions from subjects as Mathematics, Aptitude, Drawing.
  • Language: Hindi, English (candidates can select the language while filling the application form)
  • Mode: exam will be conducted only through the offline mode i.e. the pen and paper based mode.
  • Duration: 3 hours. (4 hours for the candidates having 40% or more disability)
  • Marking Scheme: 4 marks for each correct response (2 questions of drawing will carry 70 marks).
  • Negative Marking: 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect or multi-responses.

JEE Main Admit Card

The admit cards which are also known as the hall ticket for the examination centre will be available from 17.12.2018  for JEE Main 2019 examination. It will be available only in the online mode and can be downloaded from the official website for JEE Main. The candidates are required to enter the details about their application number and password on the official website which was provided to them during the time of filling up of the application form for JEE Main 2019 examination. The admit cards will only be accessible to the candidates who have successfully filled the application form. The admit card carries the details about the name of the candidate, gender, date of birth, venue of the examination centre, date and time of the exam etc. in case the candidates find any errors in the details mentioned in the admit card, they are requested to contact the concerned authorities on an urgent basis for the rectification of the errors.


JEE Main 2018 Result

JEE Main 2018 result for Paper 1 will be announced on 31st January 2019 on the official website of NTA and hence the candidates can check the same.  In order to check their results candidates are required to enter their roll number and date of birth in the desired field on the website and then click on the submit button to generate their scorecard.  Once the results are announced, merit list will be prepared on the basis of the scores of JEE Main 2019.

JEE Main 2019 Counseling

The counseling for JEE Main 2019 will start from the first week of Feb 2019 (expected) and the candidates who have successfully cleared JEE Main will be called for counseling according to their rank obtained in the merit list. JoSAA which stands for Joint Seat Allocation Authority and CSAB which stands for Central Seat Allocation Board are the bodies responsible for handling the counseling procedure of JEE Main 2018. The counseling is divided into 4 rounds where first 3 rounds are to be taken care of by JoSSA and 4thround will be handled by CSAB. The results for each round will be announced separately. The counseling is to be conducted in the online mode only.

The candidates on their part are required to register for counseling on the official website and select their preferred course and college. Post the seats in different colleges will be allotted to the candidates on the basis of their ranking, category and the availability of the seats in the respective colleges. Lastly the candidates are required to report at the institute allotted for document verification process and fee payment.
